The Project 2025 Masterminds Are Happier Than Ever With Donald Trump
“[Trump’s] going to make sure that he wins. And then we govern from there,” said one Project 2025 advisor.
No matter how much Donald Trump tries to duck, dodge, and distance himself from his Project 2025 agenda written by his inner circle and closest allies, those allies are making it clear they aren’t worried. They are confident he will deliver on their agenda in a second term.
Trump’s Project 2025 allies are openly saying that Trump’s attempts to distance himself from them are nothing more than a “PR gesture” to help him dodge questions on his plans. And they are saying they expect to govern together when he wins.
As one Project 2025 ally said to NBC News, “The general sense is this is a PR gesture for [Trump] to provide himself maximum room to maneuver and avoid making any commitments at this point. … He wants to avoid having to answer questions about anything he doesn’t want to answer questions about. Most people I know who are involved with it don’t seem overly worried that this actually constitutes a repudiation and is going to mean anything on Jan. 20.”
American Principles Project President Terry Schilling, who advises the RNC’s platform committee and whose organization serves on Project 2025’s advisory board, compared Trump and his Project 2025 allies to siblings:
“I love Heritage, I think they do phenomenal work. And it’s kind of like you have two siblings in a fight and you don’t know who to side with,” adding, “There will be a lot of people that are involved in Project 2025 that go into this next administration… We’ve got to win. And [Trump’s] going to make sure that he wins. And then we govern from there.”
Meanwhile, Project 2025 leader Kevin Roberts was over the moon at Donald Trump’s choice for VP, and is still emphasizing “overlap” between Project 2025 and Donald Trump’s agenda to anyone who will listen:
Roberts yesterday during the RNC: “Right in the middle of this program, we learned that our great friend Senator JD Vance is President Trump's running mate. So just when you think it can't get any better, it can!”
“Most of all, there’s overlap,” Roberts told reporters Monday about Trump’s policy preferences and Project 2025. “There will always be differences. And we’ll work on those when we’re talking about specific legislative work. And we know that those conversations are going to be very positive.”
Biden-Harris 2024 spokesperson Sarafina Chitika released the following statement:
“Donald Trump’s Project 2025 allies are saying the quiet part out loud: Trump’s attempts to distance himself from his extreme, unpopular Project 2025 agenda are nothing more than a ‘PR gesture.’ A second Trump term will mean fewer freedoms and higher costs for middle-class families. Voters are smart, and they understand that Donald Trump and Project 2025 are one and the same.”
