š¢ Freedom Over Fascism: How We Resist AuthoritarianismāTogether
š½ Freedom over fascism means accountability, hope, and people power. Get the latest news, global warnings, and actions to resist authoritarianism.
Freedom is not passive. It is a daily act of advocacyāof speaking out, showing up, and holding leaders accountable to the will of the people.
In a world where billionaires, extremists, and strongmen try to rewrite the rules, Freedom Over Fascism exists to remind us of a simple truth: power still belongs to the peopleāif we use it.
Why Freedom Over Fascism Matters:
Authoritarianism feeds on fear, corruption, and silence
Accountability is being attacked at home and abroad
This newsletter exists to inform, connect, and mobilize
Freedom survives only when the people defend it.
When leaders escape accountability, it signals that powerānot justiceārules, eroding trust, fueling corruption, and opening the door to authoritarianism. Billionaire-backed members of Congress, justices, and elites arenāt serving the peopleātheyāre scheming to suppress our voices, strip away our rights, and rule over us. But progress and power to the people is more than an idea; itās a movement. By standing up, speaking out, and demanding dignity, opportunity, and justice for all, we can build an America that truly lives up to its promise.
šØ Freedom Over Fascism ā News Briefs
ā The Resistance Libs Were Right
Michelle Goldberg in a piece for the New York Times asserts that opposition to Trump isnāt simply liberal grievance but a principled stand against what the author characterizes as rising authoritarianism and fascistic tendencies in policy and rhetoric under his second term. It contends that resisting these trends is vital to defending democratic norms, civil rights, and rule of law. ā The New York Times
Why This Matters: By framing resistance as a broader democratic imperative rather than partisan hostility, the article underscores growing national concern over authoritarian impulses in U.S. governance.
šŗšø More Immigrants Detained by ICE Recount Harsh and Cruel Treatment
Reporting from Minneapolis documents aggressive tactics by ICE agents ā including warrantless stops, detentions of both undocumented immigrants and U.S. citizens, and chaotic street enforcement ā as well as the deep fear and disruption these actions have caused within immigrant and local communities. āOne man targeted at home says agents took ātrophy picturesā of him on their personal phones.ā Activists and residents describe the federal surge as punitive rather than protective. ā Mother Jones
Why This Matters: This coverage illuminates how federal immigration actions are affecting everyday life and civil liberties in American cities, raising broader questions about racial profiling, due process, and government accountability in enforcement.
šŖ© Democrat targeted by Trump attacks āauthoritarianā effort to intimidate critics
āDonald Trump is borrowing a strategy from authoritarian regimes to intimidate potential critics and discourage them from speaking out, according to a senator under investigation by his administration.ā ā The Guardian
āļø DOJ Vows to Press Charges After Activists Disrupt Church Where Minnesota ICE Official Is a Pastor
Protesters in St. Paul interrupted a church service, accusing a pastor who also holds a federal ICE post of involvement in controversial immigration actions; the Department of Justice is now investigating potential civil rights violations for disrupting worship. ā āWhen you think about the federal government unleashing barbaric ICE agents upon our community and all the harm that they have caused, to have someone serving as a pastor who oversees these ICE agents, is almost unfathomable to me,ā said Armstrong, who added she is an ordained reverend. āIf people are more concerned about someone coming to a church on a Sunday and disrupting business as usual than they are about the atrocities that we are experiencing in our community, then they need to check their theology and the need to check their hearts.ā ā The incident comes amid heightened national tensions over immigration enforcement after the deadly shooting of a Minnesota woman by an ICE agent. ā The Seattle Times
Why This Matters: The clash between activism and legal protections for religious worship underscores deep fractures in public response to immigration policy and raises critical questions about how and where dissent is expressed and policed.

The Pattern Authoritarians Rely On
Authoritarianism does not announce itself all at onceāit advances through a familiar and dangerous pattern.
Elites evade accountability, signaling that rules apply to the many, not the powerful. When corruption goes unpunished, trust in democratic institutions erodes.
Billionaires bankroll influence, drowning out the voices of everyday people. Policy bends toward profit, while working families are told to accept less freedom, fewer rights, and more sacrifice.
Dissent is criminalized, whether through crackdowns on protest, surveillance of activists, or laws designed to intimidate rather than protect. When speaking out becomes risky, silence is enforced.
Fear replaces trust, as communities are pitted against one another. Immigrants, activists, journalists, and marginalized groups are scapegoated to distract from abuses of power and to keep people divided.
This is not accidentalāit is the blueprint.
Fascism thrives when people feel powerless. Thatās why people power terrifies it.
When we organize, speak out, vote, and demand accountability, we disrupt this pattern. We remind those in power that legitimacy flows from the peopleāand that freedom cannot survive without collective action.
ā The Tools That Authoritarianism Canāt Defeat
š± Hope
Hope is not naĆÆveāit is strategic. Fascism feeds on despair and fear. Hope fuels imagination, courage, and sustained resistance. It reminds us that a just future is possibleāand worth fighting for.
š¤ Respect
Respect dismantles fascismās core weapon: dehumanization. By choosing dignity and inclusion, we build communities strong enough to resist hate, scapegoating, and division.
š§© Unity
Authoritarians rule by dividing us. Unity breaks their strategy. When we stand together across differences, we deny fascism the fractures it needs to survive.
š½The strength of a nation is not its ability to fight wars, but rather by its ability to prevent them. - Gene Roddenberry
