Achievements as President and Beyond
As president, Jimmy Carter demonstrated unwavering dedication to peace, human rights, and environmental stewardship. He brokered the historic Camp David Accords, fostering peace between Egypt and Israel, and made human rights a central focus of U.S. foreign policy, advocating for marginalized communities worldwide. Amid the 1970s energy crisis, Carter promoted conservation and alternative energy, laying the groundwork for today’s renewable energy movement. A passionate conservationist, he significantly expanded protected lands, including over 100 million acres in Alaska, established the Department of Energy, and symbolically installed solar panels on the White House, reflecting his commitment to sustainability.
After leaving the White House, President Carter continued to dedicate his life to service, particularly through the Carter Center, an organization committed to advancing human rights and alleviating suffering worldwide. Jimmy Carter’s legacy is one of service, humility, and unwavering commitment to justice. Together with his wife Rosalynn, he became a tireless advocate for affordable housing through Habitat for Humanity, personally building homes and inspiring countless others to join the effort. Through the Carter Center, he spearheaded initiatives to combat diseases like Guinea worm disease and river blindness, improving the lives of millions in underserved regions. Additionally, the Carter Center’s election monitoring in over 39 countries promoted democracy and fair governance worldwide.
Born and raised in Plains, Georgia, Carter's modest upbringing instilled in him the values of hard work and empathy. After his presidency, he returned to his small hometown, living a life of simplicity and service. Known for his moral leadership, Carter consistently spoke out against racism, bigotry, and inequality, urging Americans to uphold the principles of liberty and justice for all. Freedom Over Fascism - Statement
People Power United declares Fascism a clear and present danger to our rights, freedoms, democracy, and the rule of law.
In response to recent MAGA shenanigans to promote Fascism, People Power United - a progressive grassroots group - issued the following statement:
“MAGA Republicans have no interest in representing us. They want to rule over us. Freedom is a daily act of advocacy and holding our leaders accountable to the will of the people. There is no power like that of the people, and People Power United stands ready to protect our communities against any and all injustices,” said Laurie Woodward García of People Power United.
People Power United will continue to oppose such harm to our community and champion civil rights for all.
Project 2025 would shift power to a fascist regime
Donald Trump’s Project 2025 is a blatant power grab that aims to give extreme MAGA Republicans unchecked authority. They plan to use this power to criminalize abortion, undermine the middle class, and dismantle Social Security and Medicare.
Under Trump’s Project 2025, Republicans intend to impose a nationwide abortion ban and create a national registry to monitor women’s pregnancies and miscarriages. They even threaten to imprison doctors and nurses who provide essential care.
If enacted, Project 2025 would also gut the Affordable Care Act, leading to higher healthcare costs for everyone and a loss of protections for pre-existing conditions. Workers would lose their right to overtime pay, and middle-class families would face tax hikes—all while wealthy corporations receive new handouts.
Republicans' Project 2025 includes a detailed plan to dismantle Social Security and Medicare as we know them. This means slashing benefits for seniors and allowing Big Pharma to charge exorbitant prices for medication.
How do we fight Fascism?
Hope
Hope is a powerful weapon against fascism, serving as both a shield and a rallying cry in the face of fear and oppression. While fascism thrives on division, despair, and apathy, hope inspires unity, action, and resilience. It fuels our belief in a better future, reminding us that change is possible when we come together with determination and courage. Hope empowers us to envision a society built on equality, justice, and freedom, motivating us to take meaningful steps to protect these values. By cultivating hope in our communities, we counteract the darkness of fascism with light, proving that love, solidarity, and persistence can overcome even the most daunting challenges.
Respect
Respect is a formidable weapon against fascism, countering its foundation of hatred and dehumanization with dignity and inclusivity. Fascism seeks to divide and conquer by pitting communities against one another, but respect bridges those divides, fostering empathy and understanding. When we listen to each other, honor diverse perspectives, and uphold the inherent worth of every individual, we dismantle the narratives that fuel authoritarian ideologies. Respect strengthens our resolve to protect the rights of all, reminding us that democracy thrives when we treat each other as equals. By leading with respect, we create a society where collaboration and compassion overpower fear and division, rendering fascism powerless in the face of unity.
Unity
Unity is one of the most powerful weapons against fascism, as it dismantles the divide-and-conquer tactics that authoritarian regimes rely on to maintain power. Fascism thrives on sowing division, exploiting differences, and isolating communities, but unity creates an unbreakable bond that transcends those divides. When people from all walks of life stand together, recognizing that an attack on one group is an attack on all, they form a collective force too strong to ignore. Unity amplifies our voices, strengthens our movements, and ensures that no one fights alone. It reminds us that our shared commitment to freedom, justice, and democracy is far greater than the fear and hate that fascism seeks to spread. Together, we can build a future where unity prevails, ensuring that democracy is not just defended but strengthened.
