Standing Up from Home: Everyday Acts Against Fascism and for Freedom
In a time when authoritarianism is gaining ground globally, it’s easy to feel like resistance is out of reach. But real, lasting change often begins at home. You don’t need to hold public office or lead a movement to defend democracy—small, consistent actions by everyday people can make a powerful impact.
1. Stay Informed and Share the Truth
Fascism feeds on ignorance and lies. You can counter it by staying informed through reliable news sources, fact-checking before sharing, and avoiding conspiracy theories. Share credible information with friends and family. Start a book club or discussion group focused on democracy, history, or human rights to help others stay informed too.
2. Use Your Voice
Online platforms offer powerful ways to speak out. Post your support for marginalized communities, push back against hate and disinformation, and uplift voices on the front lines. Offline, call your elected officials, write letters to the editor, or talk to neighbors. Even small conversations can shift perspectives and inspire civic action.
3. Support Pro-Democracy Efforts
From your home, you can fuel the movement. Donate what you can, sign petitions, volunteer remotely, or attend virtual events. Grassroots organizations rely on people like you to pressure lawmakers, fight voter suppression, and educate the public.
4. Vote—and Help Others Vote
Voting is a powerful act of resistance. Register, vote in every election, and help others do the same. From home, you can text or call voters, write postcards, and join get-out-the-vote campaigns.
5. Live Your Values Out Loud
Fascism thrives on fear and silence. Defy it by living your values—fly a pride flag, support diverse creators, read banned books, or shop from minority-owned businesses. Acts of compassion, courage, and inclusion help build a culture where freedom thrives.

People Power United declares Fascism a clear and present danger to our rights, freedoms, democracy, and the rule of law.
In response to recent MAGA shenanigans to promote Fascism, People Power United - a progressive grassroots group - issued the following statement:
“MAGA Republicans have no interest in representing us. They want to rule over us. Freedom is a daily act of advocacy and holding our leaders accountable to the will of the people. There is no power like that of the people, and People Power United stands ready to protect our communities against any and all injustices,” said Laurie Woodward García of People Power United.
People Power United will continue to oppose such harm to our community and champion civil rights for all.
Project 2025 would shift power to a fascist regime
Donald Trump’s Project 2025 is a blatant power grab that aims to give extreme MAGA Republicans unchecked authority. They plan to use this power to criminalize abortion, undermine the middle class, and dismantle Social Security and Medicare.
Under Trump’s Project 2025, Republicans intend to impose a nationwide abortion ban and create a national registry to monitor women’s pregnancies and miscarriages. They even threaten to imprison doctors and nurses who provide essential care.
If enacted, Project 2025 would also gut the Affordable Care Act, leading to higher healthcare costs for everyone and a loss of protections for pre-existing conditions. Workers would lose their right to overtime pay, and middle-class families would face tax hikes—all while wealthy corporations receive new handouts.
Republicans' Project 2025 includes a detailed plan to dismantle Social Security and Medicare as we know them. This means slashing benefits for seniors and allowing Big Pharma to charge exorbitant prices for medication.
How do we fight Fascism?
Hope
Hope is a powerful weapon against fascism, serving as both a shield and a rallying cry in the face of fear and oppression. While fascism thrives on division, despair, and apathy, hope inspires unity, action, and resilience. It fuels our belief in a better future, reminding us that change is possible when we come together with determination and courage. Hope empowers us to envision a society built on equality, justice, and freedom, motivating us to take meaningful steps to protect these values. By cultivating hope in our communities, we counteract the darkness of fascism with light, proving that love, solidarity, and persistence can overcome even the most daunting challenges.
Respect
Respect is a formidable weapon against fascism, countering its foundation of hatred and dehumanization with dignity and inclusivity. Fascism seeks to divide and conquer by pitting communities against one another, but respect bridges those divides, fostering empathy and understanding. When we listen to each other, honor diverse perspectives, and uphold the inherent worth of every individual, we dismantle the narratives that fuel authoritarian ideologies. Respect strengthens our resolve to protect the rights of all, reminding us that democracy thrives when we treat each other as equals. By leading with respect, we create a society where collaboration and compassion overpower fear and division, rendering fascism powerless in the face of unity.
Unity
Unity is one of the most powerful weapons against fascism, as it dismantles the divide-and-conquer tactics that authoritarian regimes rely on to maintain power. Fascism thrives on sowing division, exploiting differences, and isolating communities, but unity creates an unbreakable bond that transcends those divides. When people from all walks of life stand together, recognizing that an attack on one group is an attack on all, they form a collective force too strong to ignore. Unity amplifies our voices, strengthens our movements, and ensures that no one fights alone. It reminds us that our shared commitment to freedom, justice, and democracy is far greater than the fear and hate that fascism seeks to spread. Together, we can build a future where unity prevails, ensuring that democracy is not just defended but strengthened.
