Common Cause releases 2024 Democracy Scorecard
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: September 9, 2024
WASHINGTON, DC — Common Cause released its fifth biennial Democracy Scorecard. Our Scorecard includes transformative democracy reform bills like the Freedom to Vote Act, John R. Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act, Supreme Court Ethics, Recusal, and Transparency Act, DC Statehood, and more. For those living outside of DC, you can enter your address to see how your Senators/Representative scored. The Hill ran an exclusive on it this morning, and we expect a number of other state and national publications to do stories on it later this week. Here are a few highlights (and lowlights) from this year’s Democracy Scorecard:
117 Members have perfect scores, a 15.8% increase in perfect scores over our 2022 Scorecard (which had 101 perfect scores) and a more than 100% increase from our 2020 Scorecard (which had 58 perfect scores)
California is the state that has the most Members with perfect scores (23)
Rhode Island and Vermont are the only states whose entire congressional delegations have a perfect score
Wyoming is the only state whose entire delegation has a “zero”
148 Members have a “zero”
